De-escalation training
– Safe, calm and determined in action –
De-escalating communication is a key competence not only for security personnel in the guarding sector. Here, de-escalation techniques are superior to the use of other means. Especially the use of physical force or coercive measures in the final stages.
However, if these coercive measures are necessary, appropriate and proportionate, intrinsic safety principles must also be observed throughout the conflict situation, from start to finish.
The master's programme in ‘Police Operations Training’ at the Hamburg Police Academy, as well as multiple certified and state-recognised technical colleges for security services and the security industry, had a major influence here.

Social skills and soft skills play a crucial role in decision-making and problem-solving. Especially in complex and dynamic conflict situations, these skills can help to avoid escalations and respond appropriately.
Our de-escalation training focuses on uncertainties, knowledge gaps and potential danger to life. Disruptive individuals often act unpredictably and without fixed rules or tactics – this makes it all the more important to act flexibly but in a controlled manner. The central guideline remains: respond with a sense of proportion, adapted to the situation, always within the bounds of necessity and proportionality.

Distance Zones
The four ‘distance zones – intimate, personal, social and public zones’ – describe the physical distance we maintain depending on our relationship with another person. They reflect how close we allow someone to get to us, what kind of communication is appropriate in each zone, and what dangers and reactions can be expected.
Active Listening
The ‘sender-receiver model’ and ‘verbal and non-verbal communication’ explain what is known as ‘active listening’. Examples of this include gestures and facial expressions, as well as sounds of confirmation or weighing up and summarising.
Conversation management
Conversation skills are of fundamental importance when it comes to de-escalating conflict situations, developing sympathy or gathering information. It is said that 95% of all conflict situations can be resolved through communication.
Record with crack
The ‘broken record’ method is a technique for getting a disruptive person to comply with your request. This method can be used to resolve a deadlocked discussion, especially when the request or circumstances do not allow for any alternative options.
Our idea and vision
The idea is education to maintain the ability to act by closing knowledge gaps, as well as education to promote a lasting sense of security in our society as a vision!
De-escalation training is more of a team sport than competitive training, as in martial arts. In a team, you proceed in a coordinated and tactical manner to achieve a common goal. This may involve infringing on fundamental rights. Therefore, it is important to comply with rules, laws and regulations and to provide justification. Uncertainty and serious danger to life are the central focus, as the opposing party (disturber) often acts unpredictably and without regard for rules or tactics. In principle, it is important to respond to the actions of the disruptive party in a manner appropriate to the situation, in terms of necessity and proportionality! De-escalation focuses more on the process than the result. Whereas here, the focus is directly on the result, such as overcoming a present danger in the form of a punch.
